Long ignored or taboo, hair removal from the gluteal cleftis now increasingly in demand, among women and men alike. Whether for reasons of hygiene, aesthetics or comfort, this area deserves your full attention. At Novaskin Clinic, we offer a medical, long-lasting and painless solution withlaser hair removal.
In this article, we explain everything: how to prepare, how it works, what the benefits are, and why it can even prevent certain pathologies such as pilonidal cyst.

What is the gluteal cleft and why wax it?
The gluteal cleft is the central area between the buttocks, extending to the top of the cleft (near the coccyx). It’s a naturally hairy area, often overlooked, but nevertheless sensitive, prone to perspiration, irritation and sometimes even infection.
In women, this area is often waxed for comfort or to match a full bikini line. For men, it helps avoid ingrown hairs and redness, and can reduce the risk of pilonidal cysts.
How does laser hair removal work on this area?
Laser hair removal is based on selective photothermolysis: the light beam targets the hair’s melanin, heating the hair follicle and destroying it without damaging the skin.
At Novaskin, we use an Alexandrite and medical YAG laser, with cooling down to -29°C, for a comfortable treatment on this sensitive area.
The session lasts just a few minutes. The handpiece is small and precise, for a discreet, effective and painless procedure.
How do I prepare before the session?
1. Shave the area 24 hours before
Shave the area thoroughly the day before the session. Use a clean razor, without irritating the skin. Avoid scrubs or scented products before treatment.
2. Depilatory cream: use with care
- Use only a cream designed for intimate areas.
- Apply 3 to 4 days before the session, not on the day itself.
- Do a tolerance test 24 hours beforehand.
- Do not use on irritated or recently shaved skin.
Warning: depilatory cream can alter the bulb, reducing the laser’s effectiveness.
3. Avoid sport and heat just before
No sauna, steam bath or sports on the same day. Skin must be clean, fresh and not overheated.
Intimate hygiene: the real benefits
Hair removal from this area allows :
- Better daily hygiene
- Fewer odors from perspiration
- Fewer ingrown hairs and micro-irritations
- Greater comfort after sport or prolonged sitting
Patients often say they feel more comfortable and cleaner after treatment.
Pilonidal cysts: a real, preventable problem?
This cyst is an inflammation of the gluteal cleft caused by the penetration of hair under the skin. It mainly affects young men and may require surgery.
Laser treatment effectively prevents this condition by permanently eliminating hair. Novaskin’s partner dermatologists recommend it for prevention or after surgery.

How many sessions are needed? What about touch-ups?
